Celebration of Sustainable Development at the Head Office

15/04/10

Starting April 1st each year, the Week of Sustainable Development is an event initiated by the French ministry of Ecology, Energy, Sustainable Development and of the Sea. During these seven days, companies, public services, schools, and all types of organization set up various actions on a voluntary basis in order to make individuals aware of what Sustainable Development means in their daily life.

For the second year, the Head Office of Bureau Veritas participated to this special week. A steering committee, supported by correspondents in the buildings, selected the specific actions in relation with our daily working life to be conducted. The agenda was recognized by the ministry as consistent with the overall concept of this week.

An organic breakfast constituted the kick-off of this event on the very first morning and was served to 400 persons. Then a campaign on preventive-safe driving was launched, illustrated by a rolling-car simulator and professionals from the French Road Safety organization. 90 persons tested the simulator and physically understood the need of fastening safety belts. Demonstrators of electric vehicles were exposed and available for tests (bicycles, scooters, etc), organic chocolates were distributed before Easter, short movies on sustainable development were shown and 450 organic meals were served at the cafeteria. In addition, a quiz about the Good Environmental Practices at the HO was organized and 6 environment friendly recognitions were given by drawing lots.

Participating to such an event contributes to the development of good behaviours and allow for a better understanding of what is easily doable on an individual level to support sustainable development.
